Five steps, ten minutes.
- Step 01
Plug in the device
Connect your hardware wallet via USB and unlock it with its PIN.
- Step 02
Install vendor app
On Ledger, install the Bitcoin Cash app from Ledger Live (XEC reuses BCH coin-type).
- Step 03
Open Electrum ABC
Launch the wallet and pick 'New/Restore' → 'Use a hardware device'.
- Step 04
Choose your device
Select the model when prompted and confirm the connection on the device screen.
- Step 05
Receive XEC
Verify the first receiving address on the device's display before sending funds to it.
If something goes wrong.
Almost every connection problem comes down to one of three things: missing OS drivers, another app holding the device, or an outdated vendor app on the device itself. Work through those before anything else.
If your XEC address looks different from one you saved last year, that is expected after the format change to the ecash: prefix. The underlying keys are identical — see XEC wallet addresses.
Which hardware wallets are supported?+
Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, and the original Nano S; Trezor Model One and Model T; Satochip; and Coldcard. Other devices may work but are not officially tested.
Can I share a Ledger with BTC?+
Yes. A single Ledger holds independent accounts per coin. Your Bitcoin account on the device stays untouched when you add an XEC account through Electrum ABC. They live in different derivation paths.
Device not detected?+
On Linux, install the udev rules shipped with your device's vendor software. On Windows, install the latest WebUSB drivers. Close any other wallet app that might be holding the device, replug, and restart Electrum ABC.
